As I write this the world seems beset by more than the average number of disasters. Monsters from the twilight zone seem to have arisen and infected the politics of many countries I once felt affection for, racism and intolerance are making a comeback, and everywhere the forces of good seem to be on the defensive.

At times like this it is best to consider the creatures – the enormously diverse range of fellow travelers on Spaceship Earth. Like the Dude, they abide. And time spent out in the environment (or beyond the environment) watching them is time spent not reading annoying twaddle on social media and feeling honour bound to reply.
